City-wide dressup day declared for Houston. AKA Go Texan Day
Pretend play is a good thing for all ages.
Today is Go Texan day all over the Houston area. Kids and grownups alike are dressed up like cowboys and cowgirls of old all across the city. Even the most formal of businessmen and women will don their boots, buckles, hats and bling today.
Thousands of Trail Riders on horses and caravans of chuck wagons descend to the center of the city from every major freeway. People are lined on the side of the road to wave and join in the fun (not unlike a parade at Disney) Newcomers look confused as to why people are riding horses on freeway feeder roads.
It is completely acceptable to be late because of “trail riders” today as we celebrate the start of rodeo season and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
It’s our Mardi Gras. A 3 week period of fun and barbecue, cook offs and parties, rodeo and carnival fun, and LOTS of dressing up.
It’s fun to indulge our playful side and pretend to be a cowgirl one or two days a year!
